""After an hour Jess and his mum both arrived at the little corner shop at quarter past nine, Jess had bought his presents. And so had his mum, but Leslie was nowhere to be found. Jess started to panic. "She must be here!" Jess' mum was a bit in a panic too but she still was calm "Don't worry Jess; it's only quarter past..." He seemed like he didn't take any notice and he went up to the old shopkeeper.""

"Did you see a girl, with blonde hair here? About this time? Please tell me!" The old man removed his reading glasses and looked at Jess panting at the counter.
"I did yes, was she wearing a purple top?" Jess was relieved to hear that she was seen. But why would she go away again? Jess answered "Yes, she was, how long was she in here for?" He looked to the ceiling and then he spoke,
"She was in here for a couple of minutes and then her parents came in and took her. “Why?" Jess looked pale. So did his mum. Finally Jess' mum spoke
"Can we see the CCTV video please?". He gave a nod and he went into the little cupboard. While he was in there Jess and his mum were both whispering to each other. Jess was starting to cry "Mum? Everything's gonna be ok, right?." She gave a very uncertain nod she just whispered back "Look Jess you aren't going to loose her again..." He was still blank. Finally the old man had a tape in his hand and he stuck it in the little TV in the top corner. It showed Leslie coming in. In the video the old man was not paying any attention on the counter and as he said, two people did come in. It was a man and a woman. They looked at Leslie and sort of made signs to each other. Leslie was looking around for Jess and his mum. Before they knew it, the suspicious man and woman grabbed Leslie by both arms. She was struggling and she shouted "help!", she tried to shout it one more time but her mouth was covered by the woman's hand. As soon as they took her out of the shop the video ended. The old man looked guilty and Jess and his mum looked furious. Jess really shouted "Why!! How could you let a little girl be grabbed by strangers?!" The old man looked down and quietly said "Get out. Please, you have no right to be in here" as Jess' mum took him out of the shop he gave the old man the evil eye.
"Leslie!?" Jess was shouting in the street he started to cry in the cold night. His mum tried to comfort him, but still he had a fight to win. He closed his eyes as tight as he could. He hoped the Terabithians would come and help Leslie. He opened them again. There were still screaming people around searching for presents. He fell to his knees and put his head in his hands and screamed through his tears. He was so sad to think that he might loose Leslie again. Before he knew it he heard a scream from the N/E of the town. It looked misty and horrible; Jess rose to his feet and made a run towards it. Terrified Jess' mum tried to grab him but he out run her. When he was there he saw a small shaggy building. The thought of Leslie being hurt made him even angrier. He went quietly towards one of the windows; it was broken. He could hear perfectly.
A man was saying stuff to the woman "She has nothing! She has no money, presents!." He could hear Leslie struggling to speak. The woman replied "Maybe if we let her talk, she could tell us where some cash is, or possibly where she lives?" The man was humming while he was thinking. Finally he replied "Ok get the cloth of her mouth, quick!" It sounded as though she did what she was told because before long Jess heard the sweet voice of Leslie. She started to make up a story to them "Have you heard of the epsolops?" They both shook their heads. She carried on "Well they are giant fish with human legs, they roam the woods usually. They like to catch people who does wrong things". They looked confused. Jess was laughing in his head. The woman said "What do you mean" And Leslie carried on.
